What to know about MSC Seascape, the line's new U S. flagship

Whether you’re seeking much-needed relaxation or ready to uncover the tastes of the world, there’s something for everyone on board. Relax in your modern accommodations, savor culinary options for all tastes, and look forward to signature experiences that await.

I sailed on MSC’s newest and oldest ships: Here’s what it's like to cruise on new ships vs. older

In early-August 2018, MSC signed an agreement for EUR 1,5 billion (USD 1,74 billion) for both "Seaside EVO" shipbuilding projects. The financing was via a partnership with a syndicate of three lender banks (Unicredit, BNP Paribas, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti). Fully backing the credit line was the Italian export credit agency SACE SIMEST.

Fun at the Water Park

It has some stunning sculptures, including Incanto del mare (Margic of the Seas), a three-level hanging masterpiece that symbolizes MSC's focus on the environment. Before you book a cruise, here's what you need to know, including my tips about the European cruise line's latest addition to the fleet. I recently spent 7 days on this new vessel, sailing in the Caribbean and exploring the ship from top to bottom. The image is representative only; the size, layout and furniture may vary (within the same stateroom category). Yet MSC continues to consistently attract a very diverse audience, and English (and especially American English) was a distant fourth most spoken language, behind Italian, Spanish, French. To be fair, our transatlantic sailing originated in Rome (Civitavecchia) as a 17-day transatlantic crossing, so it stands to reason that most our fellow guests hailed from Europe.

Onboard Activities

These include an imposing three-metre-high replica of the Statue of Liberty at the heart of the casino and a newly designed expansive retail and entertainment area, aptly named Times Square. The main feature of this new area is an impressive 8.5 metre-high LED wall spanning four decks with a projection of the iconic skyline of this entertainment hub in Manhattan that can change from day to night. On par with the specialty restaurants, the Yacht Club Restaurant dials up the dining experience as well. The location alone is peerless, as one would expect of a suites-only restaurant, but the menu and the attention to detail surpasses expectations.

MSC Seascape Activities

You can also eat at the Yacht Club's buffet or enjoy snacks throughout the day at the Yacht Club Top Sail Lounge, so choices are also plentiful here. There is also the Pirate's Cove Waterpark, where a pesty oversized Kraken has been set loose. This is in addition to the mega slides, ROBOTRON, games, kids clubs, and other activities onboard. MSC offers complimentary kids club programs, and guests should also look into their Kids Sail Free promotion. In terms of complimentary options, the main dining room has a good selection of items on its menu, with classics and rotating specials each day. There is a wide variety of food at the buffet, including freshly made pizza and an adorable kids' area.

MSC Seascape Deck Plan Prioritizes Crowd Control

We stayed on one of the Yacht Club Deluxe Suites on Capri Deck 18. At 270 square feet, plus an 86-square-foot balcony, these suites are more than comfortable. They are also the most abundant type accommodation in the MSC Yacht Club, which also features Grand, Royal and Owner's suites, along with interior cabins that represent some of the best value onboard. MSC Seascape is the latest evolution of the line's Seaside-class ships MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview that first debuted in 2017.

Our HONEST MSC Seascape Review – Are the Critics Right About this New Ship?

With its 13 pools and water features, MSC Seascape strives to strike a balance between kid-friendly and adult-enticing settings. The centerpieces are the Marina Pool and the Jungle Room Pool, located on opposite sides of Deck 18. Both are somewhat small, and during our sailing, the Jungle Room Pool's indoor setting (it features a retractable roof) attracted the most attention from passengers. But on MSC Seascape's Caribbean sailings, it's entirely reasonable to see the outdoor Marina Pool take center stage. The adults-only Infinity Pool on Deck 8 is a little slice of paradise; a very 'Instagrammable' spot on the aft of the ship that also features a bar and a gelato station. Identical to its sister ship MSC Seashore in nearly every way, MSC Seascape features a glitzy, New York City-inspired aesthetic.

Daily Things to Do on MSC Seascape

And, as Cruise Critic has discovered, there is a lot to like about this European-minded megaship. This lively venue has several televisions and fun furniture with sports equipment accents and leather booths. Similarly, the Loft Café features oversized chairs and tables, with yellow and wood tones reminiscent of a writer’s room or a quiet hotel lounge. Perhaps the most unique bar on the ship is the Venchi 1878 Chocolate Bar.

This charming venue offers deliciously authentic Asian cuisine prepared on the spot with only the freshest, highest quality ingredients. Tradition and modernity go hand in hand in this stylish teppanyaki restaurant and sushi restaurant. With 2,270 cabins and 11 categories, variety is not an issue on MSC Seascape. Featuring muted yet elegant tones and decor, the cabins throughout the ship are comfortable and efficient.

The Robotron lies right next to the sports arena, located on deck 20. MSC Seascape features new cabins designed to suit all your needs during your holiday. Choose among different types of cabins and suites with balconies including the coveted aft suits, terraced suites with extended balconies and different suites with outdoor private whirlpools. And get to know an unparalleled accommodation experience at the 2 new palatial Owner’s Suites at the largest and most luxurious MSC Yacht Club. Essentially, this entitled us to any beverage $15 or less at any of the bars, lounges, main dining room, and specialty restaurants. Needless to say, we had no issues completing our drink around the ship on MSC Seascape.

MSC Seascape has 19 decks (the highest one is Deck 20, but Italian superstition nixes number 17). A neat little feature is that every deck on MSC Seascape is named after a famous island, from the Phi Phi Islands of Thailand (Deck 4) to the United Arab Emirates' Sir Bani Yas island (Deck 19). Despite its large size, Aurea Spa disappointingly lacks a proper waiting lounge (you have to sit across from the entrance of the gym which ruins the mood a bit), and the changing rooms are on the small side. According to MSC, their purification standards that are higher than most wastewater treatment facilities ashore. In addition to this, they use a Hybrid Exhaust Gas Cleaning System,  LED lighting, energy saving appliances, a Ballast Treatment System, as well as a state of the art recycling and solid waste management onboard. Another important point, you cannot switch devices with the wi-fi package.

An immersive experience truly connecting you to the sea awaits you onboard MSC Seascape. Coveted pools, panoramic lifts and the breath-taking glass skywalk Bridge of Sighs, make MSC Seascape iconic and unique for sensational points of view on the ocean. Beyond that, the new immersive high-tech entertainment with innovative technology provides guests with endless options. Those staying in one of the 131 suites in the Yacht Club area can enjoy spacious dedicated venues, including a lounge, private dining room, and huge rooftop area with a hot tub, pool, bar, and food service. For those looking to try the ship within a ship concept, they even have interior suites, and at a lower price point, but with lots of amenities, including a free premium drink package, internet, and access to the Thermal Spa. Seascape also features two 20-person infinity hot tubs on either side of the deck 8 promenade.

As its name would suggest, Seascape maximizes proximity to the water, with close to 140,000 square feet of outdoor space, Rodríguez said. Seascape also has a promenade measuring more than 1,700 feet long, where guests can get closer to the sea. We had a similar experience at Chora Theatre, the 1,200-seat located on Decks 6 and 7 at the front of the ship.
